Use your slicer's estimated material weight
Note: slicer weight estimate already accounts for infill
Average is ~$0.12/kWh
Used to calculate electricity cost (assumes ~200W average draw)
Adds ~15% to material weight for support structures

You could save $0.20 by shopping at the best available price vs. average.
How to find your model weight
Open your slicer (Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura, etc.), slice your model, and look for the estimated filament weight in the print summary. This number already accounts for your infill percentage, walls, and top/bottom layers.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is print cost calculated?
Print cost is calculated by multiplying your model weight in grams by the price per kilogram (for filament) or price per liter (for resin). For resin, the weight is first converted to volume using an approximate density of 1.1 g/mL, since resin is sold by the liter. An electricity cost is added if you enter a print time — it assumes a typical FDM or resin printer draws around 200 watts on average during printing.
What about waste and support material?
Toggle on the Support Material option to add approximately 15% to your material weight, which accounts for the extra filament or resin used by support structures. In practice, supports can add anywhere from 10% to 30% depending on geometry. You should also budget a small additional margin — roughly 5-10% — for purging, failed prints, and waste, especially when dialing in new materials or printer settings.
How accurate is this calculator?
This is an estimate based on average retail prices tracked across 12+ retailers by SpoolPrices. Actual costs vary based on brand, current promotions, pack size, and your local electricity rate. For the best accuracy, use the weight estimate directly from your slicer, and check the live price comparison pages to find the current best deal for your specific material. The "at best price" figure reflects the lowest price currently tracked in the database for that material type.
