Resin Types at a Glance
SLA and LCD 3D printer resin comes in several formulations, each optimized for different applications. Here's what to know about each type before you buy.
Standard
The most affordable resin — ideal for miniatures, models, and general-purpose printing. Excellent surface detail and fast curing. Starting around $20/L.
ABS-Like
Improved impact resistance and toughness — less likely to shatter when dropped. Great for functional prototypes and snap-fit assemblies. Starting around $28/L.
Water-Washable
Rinse with water instead of IPA for easier cleanup. Beginner-friendly and convenient, with a slight trade-off in brittleness. Starting around $25/L.
Flexible
Cures to a rubber-like state for gaskets, grips, and wearables. Shore hardness from 40A to 80A depending on brand. Starting around $45/L.
Plant-Based
Lower odor thanks to soy or plant-derived ingredients. Print quality matches standard resin for most uses. A more pleasant printing experience at home. Starting around $25/L.
High-Temp
Maintains structural integrity above 200°C after post-curing. Ideal for casting molds, engineering fixtures, and industrial tooling. Starting around $60/L.
Resin Buying Tips
Compare by price per liter. Resin is sold in 500 mL, 1 L, and 2 L bottles. A 500 mL bottle at $18 works out to $36/L — often more expensive than buying 1 L. We normalize all prices to $/L so the true cost is clear.
Standard resin covers most use cases. For miniatures, models, and display pieces, standard resin from Elegoo or Anycubic at $20-35/L delivers excellent detail at the lowest cost. Only upgrade to specialty resins when you have a specific need.
Factor in post-processing costs. Budget for IPA or a wash-and-cure station, nitrile gloves, and a UV light. Water-washable resin eliminates IPA costs but typically costs $5-10/L more upfront.
